Time flies when you have a child! I can't believe Jillian is almost 9 months! She is busy walking around furniture and exploring everything. In between taking care of Jillian, I get to work with awesome clients. I'm still taking some h.s. senior sessions in case you haven't gotten your portraits taken yet. Just call or email me. We have been having some little cuties making their way into the studio too! I even photographed the the local Home Schooler group for their yearbook. I photographed almost 90 students that day. I haven't been very consistent with writing on the blog - I usually post to Hubbard Studio's facebook account instead. I met these children last year when they came to the area to a resort for a family gathering. I photographed them along with all their cousins and grandma. It was nice to hear from their mom that they were going to be in town again and would like me to take portraits of the three children again (and one is on the way in several weeks!) Cooper came in with his master to get a portrait done last night. Several years ago I photographed this senior's brother with his dog. So we set up the shot similar to how we did his brothers! Cooper did a great job by looking at the senior's dad who stood behind me to get his attention!

I'm slowly getting back to photographing clients since I had a c-section with my baby girl. I have about two more weeks of recovery to go but I'm feeling a lot better each day. (Finally!!) Here are some images from a recent 6-month portrait session of a little boy.

It's hard to believe I haven't written on my blog for a month! A lot sure can happen in a month's time! On Feb. 17th I had a little girl named Jillian. She came via c-section. So as you can imagine I'm in the healing process of that surgery. Thank goodness for my awesome husband who has taken care of me so well! Three days after my daughter was born we transferred her to a Fargo hospital for four days so she could receive antibiotics for a possible infection (she had some high test levels). My husband and I got to learn all about the NICU over there. The doctors and nurses were so wonderful. We even stayed a night at the Ronald McDonald house. (We stayed the remaining nights at Mark's cousin's house.) Now we're enjoying some time at home adjusting to a new baby. Who knew they were so much work! :) Here are some portraits of my little one.

Today has been nonstop computer work! I have been updating all of my brochures and sending them to the printers. Then I updated images on our website: www.hubbardstudio.com. And now I'm preparing printed wedding album pages to be sent to the binders out of state. I think my back needs a rest! Being pregnant and sitting at a desk doesn't always go well together! I've been sitting at the desk since before 8 a.m. But I have so much I want to get done before the baby comes in a week or so... :D

Yesterday I got to help my little niece celebrate her third birthday. She loves playing dress-up - here she is getting on her new princess gear. I'm so excited to post a sneak peek from last Saturday's wedding! One of my favorite settings that we took pictures at that day was a field down the road from the church. My husband and I came upon it because I told him to keep driving straight and we drove right past the church. I'm sure glad we did though! I LOVE these images! This senior lives two houses down from the studio. It was nice to get to know her and her mom a bit better! They brought in two snakes to be in a portrait with her! I had a lot of fun with this senior. If there was one thing I could have changed it would have been the weather! It was cold outside and a little windy at times. (Though I love working with the wind to create some movement with girls' hair!) She also has the most amazing blue eyes!

I can't believe it snowed this past weekend! I photographed a wedding in town and was looking forward to capturing some fall colors in the photographs. I was worried when I woke up and looked outside to see white everywhere! Luckily I had a very brave bride and groom who were willing to freeze in order to get some beautiful fall colors! Here's a sneak peak at their wedding portraits! (Take a look at what their guest book looked like in the one image with the table and wishing tree. I designed it with some of their favorite images from their engagement session! Photo guest books are so fun, though I think it caused the wedding to be a little late because people we still signing it when the ceremony was suppose to start! lol)

This senior came in yesterday after school for a studio session. I photographed his girlfriend earlier this summer. He was so much fun to talk with. He is probably one of the most well-traveled seniors I know! Not only has he been to multiple states, but he has been to multiple countries!

Horses!

These are the 4-H girls who have earned the honor to head to the State Horse Show that is held at the State Fair grounds. (One girl was at college so she was unable to be in the portrait). If you have ever tried to photograph horses you know what a challenge it can be. This year was a lot easier than last year though. Last year was SO WINDY that the horses' and the riders' hair were flying all over! This year there was no wind but we did have a few rain drops. I also brought more attention-getters for the horses. I had rice in a plastic bowl to shake and an umbrella to wave around. Here are just a few images from that evening.

This fun 13 year-old came in with her mom to have some portraits taken. She is such a cutie! After her photo session, I went to the Becker County Fair and judged 4-H'ers on their photography entries. I can't believe it's Thursday! This week has flown by! It was filled with a high school senior, family photo shoots at resorts and lakes, and an engagement couple. Here are some images from the engagement shoot this morning. After a photo shoot in Itasca State Park this Saturday, I get to go back home and help celebrate my friend's return from Iraq. She's returning from her second all-expense paid vacation from the army! J/K! I'm so glad she's back. Last Sunday was the first time I talked with her on the phone in a year!

On Monday I met this couple at the park in town and we had a fun time creating these awesome images. Isn't this couple so cute?! And this couple likes tattoos! On the image with her ring you'll see a flower tattoo on his arm. It has their little girl's name on it. And I LOVE the shot of her holding his arm by the tattoo "Kayla Forever". Adorable!

This wedding was photographed at the end of June. It was a beautiful day. (A little drizzly in the beginning but it cleared up.) By the way these two look at each other you can tell the love between them. Some couples are shyer about showing affection, but these two don't even have to try, it just comes natural! On Saturday my husband and I went to this couple's house to photograph their family who were in town to help them celebrate their anniversary. After the portrait session they went off to celebrate with even more people who came from all over the U.S.! What a wonderful couple!

Hubbard Vacation

Last Thursday I drove out to Rapid City, SD with a car load of people - my sister-in-law, two nieces and my cousin (who I was bringing back home to Rapid City). And my brother rode his Victory motorcycle along with us. Later that evening my parents got on their Harleys and rode to SD too. We were having a quick Hubbard Family Vacation. Here are some pix from the Flintstone Park, Custer Park, Story Book Island Park and around Sturgis. My favorite picture is the large group one where my aunt bought ugly plastic teeth for all of us to wear. We all tried to look as dorky as possible - I think we all look like rednecks (no offense to the rednecks out there :D). The big group photo includes my family and then some of my aunts family and my godfather. I felt so bad for my parents and brother on the way home. It was raining pretty much the entire time. They were all cold and wet!

Busy week

My busy week started off on Sunday with photographing a family portrait and then attending a grad party. Then on Monday Mark (my husband) and I ventured down to the cities to go on Studio Tours for the MNPPA (MN Pro Photographers Assoc.) We went to six of the seven studios listed. Some were residential studios and others were store fronts and one was a warehouse location. They were all so cool in their own way. This is the second year I've gone on the tour. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I'm heading down to St. Cloud and on Thurs.-Monday I'll be in Rapid City, SD. My family is having a little vacation in SD. I'll post some images next week sometime!

New Old Couch

So I finally used my new old couch I bought off Craigs List. This is the couch I bought for $20 and picked it up while it was raining out. But I'm pretty sure it had been sitting in the rain and snow for a while! My brother thought I over paid. But I love the vintage look of it and am very excited to have it as a new addition to the studio. I actually want to put it in my tall grass field and do some funky outdoor portraits with it. But in the meantime I tried it out with my nieces when they were up for Memorial Weekend. And I picked up this tutu which they loved! They were dancing around and loving playing dress up. Kids are so funny!

After the NWPPA monthly photo meeting in Fargo was over, on Monday the 18th, some photographers got together to photograph a young lady named Brooke. She was learning some tricks from a local model and we gathered around her and photographed her as she posed! We were quite the scene in the park - we must have looked like the paparazzi! 4-H field trip

I hosted a 4-H field trip yesterday for over thirty members and some parents (from four surrounding counties). It was a packed house here at Hubbard Studio. Everyone got a tour of the studio, watched a demonstration of an outdoor photo shoot on my old truck (it was windy outside!!) and then got tips for photographing competition pieces for the county fairs. After almost an hour at the studio we all ventured over to the large local park and the kids took off with their digital cameras and a scavenger hunt list to get creative with photographing. Then once they completed their list they sat down with me to review their images and got a prize for being creative! (Candy bars!) The event ended with a picnic. Here are some images from the event!

Grad cards

It's grad announcement season. I've been busy on the computer designing options for the seniors to choose from. Here are some that the seniors and their parents have ordered. I'm also getting a lot of calls from seniors who need more wallets portraits to hand out. If this is you, just give me a call and I'll place your order ASAP! This morning I was in the large seasonal studio and I had to rip out the rest of my black and white tiled checkered flooring. Water seeped into a small portion of the studio and I thought I had mopped up all the moisture, but little did I know water was still lingering under the tiles! I think I'm just going to touch-up paint the floor and not do checkers, and instead design a cool swirl mural for on the wall. (We'll see how creative I can be!)

Weekend

Over the weekend I went down to my parents to watch my niece and sister-in-law in a dance show. While at my parent's farm I gave myself a shooting assignment: shoot things around the farm on only f2.8. Here are some of my results. On Sunday I also got to visit with my Grandma and Step Grandpa. And I picked up a green vintage couch off of Craig's List for $20! When my brother, husband and I picked it up my brother thought I was insane! It's even cooler in person - I'm excited to photograph with it. I'll have to make a believer out of my brother. He's just not seeing the artistic value in it!

Convention

I'm back from the annual photographer's convention! I took some notes from the speakers to implement into Hubbard Studio. Tuesday night was the banquet and I had such a good time! It was Hawaiian themed and had awesome food! (Anyone who knows me personally knows I LOVE to eat!) I think the food on my plate was stacked probably 5 inches tall! Good times!

I'm super excited for this week! Tomorrow (Sunday) through Wednesday afternoon I'll be soaking up valuable info from other pro photographers around the U.S. at the Northern Lights annual photographers convention. This year MN, SD & ND pro photographers are heading to Pequot Lakes for the convention. Usually by the end of the convention I can't even think anymore. Classes and activities pretty much start at 8/9 a.m. and go until 9:30 p.m. and beyond. And since I'm the VP for the Northwest Pro Photo Assoc. I'll be on the lookout for fellow photographers that I want to book to speak to our monthly group over in Fargo. Busy, busy! I'll be back in the office on Thursday!

Easter

My husband and I went down to my parents for the weekend. I had to see my nieces to give them their giant pink lollipops and toy Easter bunnies. (In the top photo my niece had green marker all over her face. Kids are so funny!) I also went to a baby shower on Saturday and on Sunday morning we woke up at 5:30 to go to church! I'm REALLY not use to waking up that early! So later I made up for it by taking over an hour nap! This week is full of computer work designing graduation announcements. Then next Sunday through Wednesday I'll be away at my annual photography convention! I'm very excited for that!

Senior

This senior was a lot of fun to photograph. She is such a nice girl. Can you tell she loves to read!? After I saw her cool heart shoulder bag on the studio floor I knew I had to include it in a shot! I love it with the blue background!

Tay

Tay is about a week and a half old. He is so CUTE! We were hoping to get more sleeping pictures, but he was a wake for pretty much the entire session. Isn't the sport portrait so fun! Tay's outfit was custom made for him to match his dad's.

Engagement session

On Friday this couple came up for engagement portraits. I can't wait until it gets green outside so we can head outdoors for portraits! When these two were here it snowed a little in the morning! Is it really spring? Anyways, this couple will be saying "I do" in September. He is actually a friend of my brothers.

These cute kids were such a joy to photograph. They were so good! I asked the little boy questions about his recent birthday party and his face just lite up talking about it! So cute! Here's also an ad I put together to have in the local high school yearbook.

Lockers

This week has been interesting and fun! The week started with me going over to Fargo for the monthly NWPPA meeting. Tuesday was filled with computer/Photoshop work. Then on Wednesday my husband and I got up early and drove to my parents house and we piled into their truck and drove down to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre with them. We met my brother and sister-in-law and my husband's parents in the parking lot and went in to have dinner and watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (We bought tickets for the show in December!) I have loved the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers since I was young. So when I saw that Chanhassen was putting it on I was very excited!! After the show my dad, mom, Mark and I went to Ham Lake to pick up some lockers I bought off Craig's List. I purchased the lockers for a locker room scene in the studio. I'm very excited to do sports photos with the seniors using them! I can't believe tomorrow's already Friday! I'll be photographing two children tomorrow and an engagement session.

MOPS Spring Portraits

On Friday and Saturday we held the Spring Portraits event with bunnies. We had a huge gray bunny with long ears and a small white and black bunny. I saw some familiar faces (see the image above) and met a lot of new families! Our largest group was 9 children!

Taxes

Yesterday we met with the tax guy and got everything squared away. Usually it takes me a couple days to get all my personal and business paper work put together, but this year was great - it took me about five hours. Organization is key!
